The most prone to accidents in hazardous chemical storage is not the warehouse, but these 12 details

The core of the safety of hazardous chemical storage lies not in whether the warehouse name is compliant, but in whether the entire storage process is continuously controlled. The "Safety Law of the People's Republic of China on Hazardous Chemicals", which will come into effect on May 1, 2026, stipulates that hazardous chemicals should be stored in dedicated storage facilities and managed by dedicated personnel. The storage methods, techniques, and quantities should comply with national standards or relevant regulations.

Firstly, the storage boundary cannot be blurred. The warehouse should determine the types, quantities, and storage methods that can be stored according to design conditions, operating licenses, and safety evaluations. It is not allowed to increase categories or expand inventory without authorization due to temporary business needs. If the critical quantity is reached or exceeded, the identification, filing, evaluation, and filing of major hazard sources shall be carried out in accordance with GB 18218-2018.

Secondly, inventory verification cannot be reduced to formality. Before entering the warehouse, the product name, specifications, quantity, packaging status, hazard information, and accompanying documents should be checked. Damaged packaging, unclear labels, and inconsistent documents should not be directly stored. Chinese chemical safety technical specifications and safety labels are the basic documents for determining storage conditions, fire extinguishing media, prohibited substances, and emergency measures.

Thirdly, taboo storage cannot be judged based on experience. Acid and alkali, oxidants and reducing agents, substances that release flammable gases when in contact with water and humid environments, flammable gases and combustion supporting gases, etc., may all cause secondary accidents after leakage. Storage and allocation should be carried out in accordance with Appendix A of GB 15603-2022 and the Technical Data Sheet for Chemical Safety, rather than being roughly classified as "solid, liquid, gas".
