Uses of fluoroboric acid

Fluoroboric acid (HBF ₄) core downstream is concentrated in electroplating (accounting for about 50%), metal surface treatment, chemical catalysis, electronic semiconductors, oil fields, and lead-acid batteries, and is the core raw material of tetrafluoroborate.
1、 Electroplating industry
Lead/lead tin alloy electroplating: Solderable coating for PCB boards and electronic components, with dense coating, corrosion resistance, and good weldability.
Tin/copper/nickel: Fluoroboric acid electrolyte, uniform and bright coating, cyanide free and environmentally friendly, used for connectors, terminals, and hardware.
Pre electroplating treatment: Acid washing of aluminum/magnesium alloy to remove oxide film, prevent secondary oxidation, and improve coating adhesion.
2、 Metal surface treatment
Electrolytic polishing: 2.5% solution electrolytic polishing pure aluminum to improve smoothness and corrosion resistance.
Cleaning/acid washing: remove surface oxides and silicate scales of stainless steel, carbon steel, and copper; Boiler/heat exchanger descaling.
Aluminum etching: Etching processing of aluminum and aluminum alloys, used for signs, decorative parts, and electronic aluminum foil.
3、 Chemical synthesis and catalysis
Alkylation catalyst: isobutane butene alkylation in refineries to produce high octane gasoline; Also used for the alkylation of benzene/toluene to produce ethylbenzene/isopropylbenzene.
Aggregation catalyst: cationic polymerization (such as olefins, cyclic ethers) to prepare polymer materials.
Diazogen stabilizer: Synthesize fluorine-containing pharmaceutical and pesticide intermediates to prevent the decomposition of diazonium salts.
Fluoroborate raw materials: Preparation of sodium/potassium/zinc/copper fluoroborate for electroplating, soldering flux, flame retardant, etc.
4、 Electronics and Semiconductors
Silicon wafer/wafer cleaning: removing surface oxide layers, metal impurities, and particles, semiconductor/photovoltaic manufacturing processes.
Glass/Quartz Etching: Precision etching and cleaning of optical glass and quartz components.
PCB manufacturing: Etching copper foil, creating fine circuit graphics.
5、 Oil and Energy
Oilfield acidification: Acid components dissolve silicate/carbonate blockages in the formation, enhancing permeability and recovery rate.
Lead acid battery: Dissolve lead electrolyte to improve charging and discharging efficiency and lifespan.
6、 Other uses
Glass processing: Etching and carving, frosted glass, architectural/decorative glass processing.
Textile: flame retardant finishing to enhance the flame retardancy of fabrics.
Analytical Chemistry: Dissolving silicates/ores, masking metal ions, quantitative analysis reagents.
